Gabbi Young (’13) attended Dixie State from 2009 to 2013 and received her degree in Elementary Education Degree with an ESL endorsement Biography
Her first year of teaching was spent in Littlefield Unified School District teaching second grade at Beaver Dam Elementary school. She commuted from St. George to Beaver Dam each day for one school year. But, because of family circumstances she needed to find something in St. George. She has now been teaching 4th grade at Crimson View Elementary a STEM and 1:1 ratio of ipad: student school for two years and absolutely loves it! She was a presenter at SUECON (Southern Utah Educators Conference) in 2015. She is a member of the community council and a student council advisor.
She was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, but most of her time was spent in Fort Worth, Texas and Clearwater, Florida. After graduating high school she decided to move to St. George, to attend Dixie State and be closer to her grandparents. When she was younger, she would spend most of her summers and holidays with her grandparents in Toquerville, so Dixie was a familiar place. When she was 16, her grandpa took her around campus and showed her the fountain and the mural and she knew there was something special about Dixie. While attending Dixie, she was involved in Student Government with PR and was the administrative assistant to the student body president, and the administrative assistant on the institute council. She worked part time at Dixie State’s Box Office for 3 years and was nominated as Female Student of the year in 2011. Her and her husband Steven were married January 2012. In 2013, she graduated as part of the first graduating class of Dixie State University.
She will be graduating with her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in May 2016 and is currently working on a technology endorsement and STEM endorsement through Dixie State!
Her proudest achievements happened in the last two years. In 2014 and at 32 week pregnant they adopted two daughters. At the time they were 6 and 8. Autumn is 10 now and in her class this year, Kamy is 8 and loves playing outside and Tyson is 18 months and keeps them busy! They built a home in Little Valley last year and love living there.
While she can’t pick one specific memory from Dixie, some of her favorite memories while attending Dixie were playing sand volleyball, going to the basketball games and D-Week. She still loves attending the Dixie basketball and football games, but now with her family.
