Wendi Bulkley – Featured Alumni May 2016

Wendi Bulkley attended Dixie State from 1998 to 2001 and graduated with her Associate of Science Degree in Business in 2000. She attend Dixie because of the 300 days of sunshine and the opportunity to live away from home. She received a leadership scholarship as an Ambassador to recruit for Dixie! While at Dixie, she learned what it mean to have the Dixie Spirit and quickly found the Red Sand deep in her shoes. “It is contagious and my future generations will continue to hear about Dixie and will love the new Trailblazers name and identity. It doesn’t matter what we are called,” Wendi said. “It’s how we feel, what we experience, who we become and it’s the relationships that we build at Dixie. I am proud to be an Alum of Dixie State. My kids have all grown up attending the Homecoming Parade, attending the Great Race and the many sporting events. We absolutely love Dixie and will continue to support and serve wherever we can.”

Her education at Dixie has influenced her career in many ways. Her leadership opportunities helped teach her how important it is to get involved in the community. It instilled in her a desire to serve and help others. Dixie helped her establish important relationships. She learned how to network with business owners and her education helped her receive a full-time job with Washington City in a career that she enjoys and loves. The life lessons and the relationships she built while at Dixie with her friends, faculty, and staff have helped her to gain the skills necessary to become a better wife and mother and public servant. “I am forever grateful for my incredible experience at Dixie and I will forever be a True Rebel! #dixie4ever, #rebelswithacause, #ilovedixie!”

Wendi is the Washington City Community Center Director. She directs and executes recreation, programs, events, preschool, rentals, aquatics and membership marketing and advertising for the Washington City Community Center. This includes her overseeing all network marketing, sponsorships and partnerships with various organizations. Recruit, hire, train and monitor personnel and oversee budgets.

In the past, she has worked as the Washington City Recreation Director, a Youth Council Advisor, Utah Valley University Gear Up Coordinator and Dixie State Upward Bound Counselor. She has been involved and given service to the Dixie State Alumni Association, Leadership Dixie Board Member, Learning Center for Families (TLC Board Member), St. George Health & Wellness Magazine Advisory Board, Red Cross Disaster Action Team, Youth Volleyball Coach and addition Church Service including serving an LDS mission in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Wendi has also been heavily involved with many professional networking groups such as Leadership Dixie, Corporate Alliance, BNI, Dixie Business Network, Washington City Area Chamber of Commerce, and St. George Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Sports & Events Commission Bureau.

Some of her hobbies and passions are coordinating big events, playing sports, traveling, shopping, serving, hiking, fishing, singing, playing the piano and spending time with her family.

After receiving her education from DSU, she continued on and received an Integrated Studies Degree in both Business Leadership & Outdoor Recreation and Bachelor of Arts Degree from Utah Valley University. She is currently attending Southern Utah University and is in the middle of completing her Master’s Degree in Public Administration
Some of her achievements includes meeting her husband at Dixie State while serving as Dixie Ambassadors together. She is a proud mom of four beautiful kids; Bailey (11), Boston (7) and 3 year old twins Cooper & Campbell.

She was the Dixie State Student Body President 2000-2001, created the Student Alumni Association for Dixie State and served as the Vice President of Advancement & Student Alumni Advisor 2005-2012, Dixie State Ambassador, Service Chair, and Institute Council: Events Chair. She also was on the Student Council at UVU as the Events Chair and was the Student Alumni Director of Development.

Wendi as received many awards throughout the many opportunities she has been involved. She has received:

Some of her future goals and plans completing her Master’s Degree in Public Administration, get involved in City Council one day and serve in my community, travel, serve an LDS mission with her husband and be an awesome grandma!

Her life hero is her mom, Kerrie Vandertoolen Prince. She is the hardest working woman she knows. “She is enthusiastic and is full of energy and she has been a great example of faith and service to my family. She can put on incredible events & has this crazy ability to multi-task. People love to be around her. Her talents and personality are out of this world! She takes the time to teach me and her grandchildren some valuable life skills including cooking and sewing,” Wendi said. “She has this incredible ability to sense when something isn’t right or knows who is in need of help and she will show up at midnight or 5am to be there in her time of need.” She is Wendi’s biggest cheerleader and her greatest supporter and has always taught Wendi that she can do anything.

One of Wendi’s favorite quotes is “It’s always better to prepare & prevent than to repair and repent.” Wendi loves find JOY in all things!
