AUDITION RULES & INSTRUCTIONS

ADVANCING TO THE CALLBACK AUDITIONS

• The judges for the open audition round will review video auditions on Saturday, November 11th, to determine the participants who will progress to the in-person callback auditions on Saturday, November 18th.
• Contestants will receive notification via email by 5 PM on Monday, November 13th.

PREPARING YOUR CALLBACK AUDITION PIECE

The callback auditions happen the same week as callback notifications, so ensure you’ve been working on your callback audition piece ahead of time in case you are selected to advance on

• Your audition should be no longer than 90 seconds.
  • Ensure your backtrack is cut to the allowed time limit. The judges reserve the right to stop an audition before the full 90 seconds.
• Your piece should be different than your open audition piece.
• Dress the part! Come dressed in full performance attire as you would if it were the finale show.
• Restricted items:
  • Open flames/fire
  • Anything that takes more than 45 seconds to set up unless otherwise pre-approved

GETTING TO THE CALLBACK AUDITIONS & PARKING

Callback auditions will be held in the Gardner Ballroom at Utah Tech University.

You may park in Lot M. Signage will indicate how to get to DGT check in and entrance.

CHECKING IN

• Please arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your scheduled callback audition time
• Find the check-in table once you arrive.
• Each contestant will be required to complete a waiver form. All youth participants should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Dance groups may request a copy of the waivers prior to the callback auditions to ensure they are signed prior to check in.
• Each act should be properly warmed-up/stretched prior to entering the building.
• We do our best to stay on schedule but there may be unexpected delayed time to time.

If you arrive after your scheduled time, and the judges have moved beyond your set, you will have to wait until a spot becomes available. We cannot guarantee a replacement audition slot if you miss your scheduled time. Please call 435-879-4400 to make special arrangements and check on availability.

ALLOWED GUESTS

Guests are allowed in the audition room with your audition set. Sets include five contestants and doors will only open before and after each group set.

MUSIC BACKTRACK & SET UP

• For the in-person callback audition, set up time should take no longer than 45 seconds
  • Bands or acts that will require more time should reach out to dgt@utahtech.edu beforehand to make necessary arrangements.
• If you have music backtracks/audio, bring a phone/ipod/tablet/laptop and any necessary adapter for a 3mm headphone jack.
• Unlike the open audition, your callback audition piece MUST be cut to 90 seconds including the audio/music backtrack.
• Simple stage assistance is provided. Staff will help you move the piano to center stage. If you need additional assistance with your instrument, please indicate so with the staff.
• Items available: piano, stool and up to three mics

CALLBACK AUDITION PEFORMANCE

• When you enter the audition room, walk to the mark when prompted. Clearly announce your name, the number you are performing, and begin.

LEARN ABOUT DGT

• Dixie’s Got Talent (DGT) is a spectacular showcase of talented performers of all ages and all talent types from the Southern Utah area.
• DGT is a fundraising event, with net proceeds supporting student scholarships and the DGT Program.
• Auditions start with open round video submissions.
• Select contestants proceed to callback auditions in person at the Gardner Center Ballroom.
• The top finalists, will compete as an adult or youth and will perform in the Dixie’s Got Talent Finale. *the number of finalists will be announced with the finalists.
• Each audition round and the finale show  have a panel of judges.
• Finale winners and runners-up are determined by the judges’ scoring AND the Donate to Vote process.
• The finale show is available to watch in person by purchasing a ticket to the show, or for free by streaming it live online.
• First-place and runner-up in each age category receive a cash prize (winners-$500and runners-up-$250) and the title of Dixie’s Got Talent winner or runner-up for the year.
• This year, the finale show will be held in the Eccles Main Stage at the Utah Tech campus due to the Cox Auditorium’s renovation.

DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY

• Contestants must currently live in the Washington County, Utah geographic boundaries.
• Previous Dixie’s Got Talent winners may not compete for a second time in the same age category.
• Previous Dixie’s Got Talent runners up may not compete for 1 year after competing. After 1-year is skipped, they may audition again.
• Previous Dixie’s Got Talent finalists are allowed to audition again each year as long as they were not the winner or runner up.
• Only one video submission per person/group. If you have an opportunity to audition with a group, but also wish to audition as an individual, you must choose one or the other.
• Groups are limited to 10 individuals *due to the limited stage space at our new venue. Please reach out if your group is larger to determine if it will can accommodate your group.

*Please note that no additions or substitutions to the members of the initial audition groups will be permitted, subject to the discretion of the DGT producer.

SAVE THE DATES / ENSURE AVAILABILITY

Contestants who wish to move on to the Finale, must be available to attend (including group members) the following events:

• The in-person Callback auditions on Saturday, November 18, 2023 (time TBD)
• Finalist Bootcamp on Thursday afternoon, December 6, 2023
• Finale rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 2024
• Finale show, all day on Thursday, January 25, 2024

PAY AUDITION FEE

$15.00 Individual or Pair ($10 for Current UT Student)
$30.00 Group (3+)

Non-refundable audition fee benefits the DGT program and fundraiser.

FILM OPEN AUDITION VIDEO

1. Introduce yourself the following way:
   1. State your name, the date, your talent type, and the name or title of your piece
2. Immediately following your verbal introduction, in the same take, film your prepared audition piece
   1. Although there is no time limit for this audition, please note that the judges usually review approximately 60-90 seconds, so ensure your best features are highlighted in that first 90 seconds. You may cut or arrange your piece to a shorter length to accommodate this.
3. Save your video file as a .mp4 or .mov to your device

Submissions with auto-tune will be disqualified.

• Upload your video file into the form where indicated

Audition videos may be submitted up until November 8th at 11:59 pm.
